The Chinese Whispers Concert is an annual event organised by the Confucius Institute and Music (Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Education) at the University of Hull. The concert was held at Middleton Hall on 22 April, marking the 10th anniversary of the project. The event brings together schoolchildren and community choirs to showcase innovative approaches to teaching Chinese language and experiencing culture through choral singing.
The concert was attended by distinguished guests including Consul General of China in Manchester, Mr. Tang Rui; Education Counsellor, Mr. Liang Yan; University Interim Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kevin Kerrigan; Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Craig and Faculty of Arts, Head of Social Sciences and Education Professor, Darren Mundy.
The programme featured performances from the University of Hull Choir and a range of partner primary and secondary schools. It included choral, Chinese-inspired and collaborative performances, highlighting music’s role in language learning and cultural exchange.
The concert was warmly received by the audience and guests, who praised its creative approach to cultural collaboration and language learning. It highlighted the continued success of the “Chinese Whispers™” project in strengthening UK–China educational and cultural links through music.
