On 5 December 2025, the Confucius Institute at the University of Hull took part in the Beverley Christmas Tree Festival, a major community event held in the historic market town of Beverley, East Yorkshire.
The Confucius Institute presented a Christmas tree inspired by the traditional Chinese lion dance, creating a colourful display that combined Chinese cultural elements with the festive atmosphere of Christmas. The tree attracted the attention of many local visitors throughout the event.
Beverley Mayor Alison Healy attended the festival and met with staff from the Confucius Institute, taking photographs alongside the display and learning more about the cultural inspiration behind it.
Through conversations with visitors and interactive activities, the Confucius Institute offered members of the local community an opportunity to engage with aspects of traditional Chinese culture in a relaxed and festive setting.
The Beverley Christmas Tree Festival is one of the town’s most popular annual community events, bringing together local organisations, schools, charities, and community groups. This year’s festival featured more than 150 decorated Christmas trees and attracted over 3,000 visitors.
