From 28 February to 1 March 2026, the Confucius Institute at the University of Hull took part in The Third European Symposium on the Supervision of Research Students in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. The Institute was represented by CIUH Interim Co-Director Liu Hongwei, alongside Mandarin teachers Shi Miaomiao, Zheng Yi and Fan Guojing.
The symposium was jointly organised by the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation and the British Chinese Language Teaching Society. More than 30 experts and scholars from China, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Japan, and other countries delivered keynote speeches and thematic presentations during the event.
The symposium focused on a range of frontier topics in international Chinese language education, including theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, Chinese language studies, and new media-assisted teaching. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on current developments and emerging trends within the discipline.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Hull gained valuable insights from the symposium and will incorporate ideas from the discussions into its teaching and management practices, further promoting the integration of innovative academic perspectives into Chinese language teaching practice.
