On 6 May 2026, the Annual Cultural Celebration at the OnCampus Hull was successfully held. The Confucius Institute at the University of Hull was once again invited to participate, joining staff and students from more than ten countries in hosting cultural stalls and interactive activities. The event attracted over 200 participants.

At the Chinese culture stand, traditional Hanfu costume experiences and folk culture challenge games drew enthusiastic participation from students of different nationalities, many of whom stopped to take photos and share the experience. A variety of Chinese delicacies, including iced jelly desserts, marinated snack platters, and handmade sweets, also offered visitors a taste of “China on the tip of the tongue,” receiving widespread praise from staff and students alike. Professor John Craig, Vice-Chancellor of the university, together with several members of staff, visited the Confucius Institute stand to engage in cultural exchange activities. Sarah Hepton, Director of the International Study Centre and organiser of the event, highly commended the Chinese culture stand as one of the largest and most creative highlights of the celebration.

As one of the University of Hull’s signature annual events, the World Cultural Celebration has invited the Confucius Institute to participate for many consecutive years. Coinciding with the Confucius Institute’s new semester recruitment season, the event not only served as an important platform to further enhance the Institute’s visibility on campus and inspire international students’ interest in Chinese culture and language learning, but also provided a valuable opportunity for Confucius Institute teachers and university colleagues to strengthen communication and mutual understanding.
