CIUH Mandarin Teacher Wins Prize at European Chinese Teaching Skills Competition

On 31 January 2026 in London, Yi Zheng, a Mandarin teacher from the Confucius Institute at the University of Hull (CIUH)won Third Prize at the 5th European English-Speaking Region Chinese Teaching Skills Competition.

The competition is a major annual event for Chinese language educators across Europe, focusing on teaching methodology, classroom innovation, and cultural integration. This year, it attracted 128 contestants from 71 institutions. Five CIUH teachers advanced to the semi-finals in November. Among them, Yi Zheng securing a place in the final and ultimately receiving the award.

“My sincere thanks go to the CIUH team for the comprehensive professional training and continued support and encouragement,” said Zheng. “I am committed to applying what I have learned in my teaching practice and to inspiring and engaging students in every lesson.”

CIUH views this achievement as a reflection of its ongoing commitment to pedagogical innovation and teacher development.
