Spring Festival Celebrations Shine as the Confucius Institute at the University of Hull Marks Its 10th Anniversary

The Confucius Institute at the University of Hull (CIUH) transformed the campus into a celebration of culture and taste of the Spring Festival on 11th of February, hosting a vibrant event that immersed students, staff and the local community in sights, sounds and flavors of the Spring Festival. This year’s event held particular significance as it marked the 10th anniversary of CIUH, continuing a shared commitment with Tianjin Normal University to foster intercultural understanding and meaningful global exchange.

Joyful Yonge Dance

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of CIUH, welcome addresses were delivered by British Director of CIUH Andrew King; Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hull John Craig; Education Counsellor, Chinese Consulate General in Manchester Liang Yan. In their remarks, speakers highlighted the important role CIUH has played in promoting Chinese language learning and cultural engagement across the region. President of the International Society for Chinese Teaching Zhong Yinghua noted that, as CIUH enters its second decade, it is well positioned to deepen educational cooperation and further strengthen partnerships between the UK and China. Other Confucius Institutes of Tianjin Normal University and Interim Co-Director of CIUH Liu Hongwei also conveyed their warm congratulations and best wishes.

Guests enjoyed a rich programme of traditional Chinese music and dance, alongside hands-on activities such as Hanfu dressing, calligraphy, Chinese painting, woodblock printing, Chinese musical instruments, and lantern riddles. Authentic Chinese food offered a taste of festive flavors. The event offered an engaging and immersive introduction to Chinese traditions for people of all ages.
