On 23 and 25 February 2026, the teaching team from the Confucius Institute at the University of Hull visited The Liberty Academy in Hull to deliver three “Chinese New Year in the Classroom” workshops for students across three year groups. The sessions drew enthusiastic participation from students and created a lively atmosphere throughout the school.
The workshops were centred around the theme of Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) and featured a wide range of hands-on activities, including traditional woodblock New Year prints, paper-cutting, a chopsticks challenge, an introduction to Chinese dance, and taster sessions in Chinese painting and calligraphy. The interactive approach proved to be an effective way of sparking students’ interest in learning Mandarin.
The “Chinese New Year in the Classroom” workshops form part of the Confucius Institute’s wider commitment to supporting local schools and deepening partnerships across Hull. The success of the events has helped to boost students’ enthusiasm for learning Mandarin and further strengthen Mandarin teaching at The Liberty Academy.
