The Confucius Institute at the University of Hull (CIUH, 赫尔大学孔子学院) was established in February 2016, with funding from China’s Ministry of Education. Its mission is to promote Chinese language and culture, support local Chinese language education, and foster cultural exchange between China and the UK. Like all Confucius Institutes worldwide, CIUH operates in partnership with its Chinese counterpart, Tianjin Normal University (TJNU).
CIUH is currently developing a range of part-time, evening, and vocational Chinese language courses, open to the general public, adult learners, and local businesses. In addition, we regularly host cultural events and exchange activities aimed at deepening mutual understanding and appreciation between the UK and China.
Looking ahead, our goals include training teachers and expanding Chinese language programmes to local schools, colleges, businesses, and the wider community, as well as to University of Hull staff and students. We also plan to organise study trips to China that combine language learning with cultural immersion experiences.
